Tongue Pimples

Bumps on tongue?

Does anyone really know the direct cause of bumps on the tongue? I was fine yesterday and now today I have a huge one and it feels like it's barely hanging on, as though I could just grasp it and tear it off. But that crap hurts. I can't stop tonguing it and that make the pain increase. I was just wondering if anyone knew what they are and where they come from and if there is any other way to relieve the pain except to wait it out? Please leave all STD, or "lie bumps" theories at the door. Thank you.

  1. your taste buds are probably infected
  2. Sometimes you can get mouth sores from Vitamin deficiency, stress, or food allergies. You can use the symptom checker at webmd for more specific results. I used to get them sometimes and I've found that what makes it feel better is to swish my mouth with warm salty water. Hope this helps.
  3. it's an inflamed taste bud....you shall survive.
  4. It's just a swollen taste bud. You'll be fine. I know they do hurt.
  5. It sounds like you have an inflamed taste bud. It is indeed very painful. You can rinse your mouth with a salty warm water solution, or a warm mixture of hydrogen peroxide and hot water. You can also treat it with Orajel or Ambesol--they will both numb the area so you can get some sleep tonight. When my son complains about this, it's usually after he has eaten way too much sour, hard candy.
