- Well bumps on the front of your toung are sallowen taste buds. So bumps on the back are probably sallowen taste buds aswell.
- The bumps are normally occuring structures called papillae . They are differently sized depending on location and may be more prominent now because of the recent infection or the medications you may have used . One other perfectly benign event ,probably heriditary in origin, is a condition called Benign Migratory Glossitis . The tongue has smooth red areas intertwined with normal whitish covering and the patterns change day by day looking like a map .
- These bumps in the back are normal, and probably came to your attention as you were looking back at the back of his throat. They are not related to the sore throat. In the front portion of the tongue, the taste buds are usually small but can get swollen or irritated on occasion and look more prominent. In the back of the tongue, there are larger taste buds known as circumvallate papillae. There are usually between 8 to 12 of them sitting in a line across the back of the tongue. They are larger and stand out, but are still normal. Here is a picture of some big papillae from a USC dental website for you: http://www.usc.edu/hsc/dental/opath/Images/QL/QL034.html
