Tongue Pimples

PUPPY question: My puppy has a small raised bump on her tongue?

It is the same color as her tongue but I can feel it when she licks me. I managed to get her to let me look but just for a second. It is just a small bump. Any vets or techs out there with any advice--please. She is only 10 months old. (maltipoo)

  1. It's probably nothing to worry about; most puppies get little bumps like that from scratches or lacerations on their tongues. It will most likely heal/disappear. If it remains for more than a week, take her to a vet. The only illnesses related to bumps on the tongue that I know of refer to pigmented bumps: "If you ever see dark, pigmented tissue anywhere on your dog that actually looks like a bump or is raised up above the neighboring tissue, have your veterinarian examine it. It may be a dangerous form of cancer called melanoma. Another nasty form of cancer accounting for about half of all types found in the tongue is called squamous cell carcinoma. Two other types of cancer of the tongue are granular cell tumor and mast cell tumor. If found early, these may be treatable and complete cures are possible, however, plan on surgery and possible radiation therapy."
