Tongue Pimples

My tongue hurts, and I have red bumps all over it! Help?!?

My tongue is really sore in the middle. I'm guessing that all the little bumps all over my tongue are raised taste buds because their are so many of them, however some of them are really painful. They're red bumps and they increase towards the back of my tongue where they get bigger. Are they just sensitive tastebuds? I've tried brushing my teeth and tongue; as I have a thin layer of yellow on my tongue (because I drink coffee). This caused the red bumps to bleed a little- maybe I was too heavy? This only came on today; I've never noticed these "bumps" before.

  1. While you may dismiss the yellow on the tongue from coffee, I have seen a yellowish film there when I have ended up with a sinus infection. IF you can ingest green tea (don't know what you think of that flavor) try this instead of the coffee for now as that has antibiotic properties in it and warm tea can be soothing to the throat and helps to calm that down. I would agree that the raised bumps can be taste buds if they are just red. Watch them to be sure that they are not draining otherwise. I would avoid the coffee or reduce your intake for now, maybe you are having this too hot or too often and it is irritating the throat to respond with the raised taste buds? If you switch brands of coffee during a given day that may also aggrivate the taste buds. Avoid drinking that SOON after it is brewed. Let it cool first.
  2. You may very well have a herpes outbreak. Go see your family doctor soon.
  3. Go see a dentist asap, there are many causes and this need to be ascertained before a treatment is given, and this can only be diagnosed clinically
