Tongue Pimples

Oral Thrush, help!?

I have had what I think is oral thrush for the past two days. I believe it is thrush because I have white patches on my tongue, my cheeks, and the back of my throat. I also have raised bumps. My roommate has had thrush in the past and is pretty sure that this is what I have. I do not want to go to the doctor as I don't have insurance and usually use home remedies anyway. If anyone has had thrush before and has used home remedies please let me know what you used. I'm looking for ones that actually work! PLEASE do not tell me to just go to the doctor, at this point that really isn't an option. Thanks! I should add I am NOT sexual active (have not been for some time) and I do not smoke. Throat does not hurt at all. Nothing hurts. Posey P: Just because I am looking for home remedies doesn't mean I don't care about my health. I am looking for OTHER people's opinions on home remedies. I already said I don't want to hear about going to the doctor. I am a student who can NOT afford to go at the moment.

  1. I am sorry my son had thrush and I think the dr told us that it can run its course but I am pretty sure you will need perscription drugs I am so sorry I hope you get better:(
  2. Treating oral thrush in healthy adults If you're a healthy adult with oral thrush, you may be able to control the infection by eating unsweetened yogurt or taking acidophilus capsules or liquid. Acidophilus is available in natural food stores and many drugstores. Some brands need to be refrigerated to maintain their potency. Yogurt and acidophilus don't destroy the fungus, but they can help restore the normal bacterial flora in your body. If this isn't effective, your doctor may prescribe an antifungal medication.
  3. Well, for oral thrush the dentist or doctor can prescribe you a treatment for this usually it is a sucker, loseng, or rinse b/c putting yeast infection cream in your mouth doesn't work and it tastes awful. My only recommendation would be to go and ask the pharmacist if there is anything for oral yeast infections you can buy w/out a script b/c I do not know of any. If you have been to the dentist recently he/she might be able to call a script in for you based on your symptoms.
  4. slice up a tomato and suck the juices around your mouth and eat yogurt and mouth wash .....after replace your toothbrush and such.
  5. do you have a walgreens or cvs nearby that has a walkin clinic? they are usually 20 dollars or less for a visit. sounds like you need mary's magic mouthwash (a compound we make in the pharmacy). it has some over the counter ingredients but also nystatin (prescription) in it to kill the infection. you can gargle with benedryl to help numb it in the mean time.
  6. i know you dont want to hear go see a physician. However, when you have thrush.. aka candidas can get a little serious. Its often a tell-tale precursor of an HIV infection. So, in that sense get it checked out. However, it can also have other not soo serious forms, ie, when babies get it in forms of diaper rash! .. Soo.. my best suggestion would be to look into antifungal medications like diflucan, Mycostatin, Nilstat or Nystex. meanwhile.. Brush your teeth at least twice a day and floss at least once a day. Avoid mouthwashes or sprays. T Limit the amount of sugar and yeast-containing foods you eat. Foods such as bread, beer, and wine encourage Candida growth. If you smoke, quit. Look into it! hope it helps.
  7. does your throat hurt a-lot? that sounds like how I get when I get strep throat.
  8. chew raw garlic
  9. had oral thrush in past. if its white and hairy looking that's what it is. diflucan is the only cure i've used in the past. unfortunately it by perscription only.
  10. Okay getting a (fungal) yeast infedtion in your mouth is pretty gross. I am surprised at your non-chalant attitude about your health. Then again, I do not know you so you just may not really care. Home remedies are okay when you really know what you are doing. If you have to ask then, you don't know. And if you really know what you were doing and if your home remedies were so great, you'd be cured. Better yet, you'd know how not to get it. Going to the doctor IS an option. Excuses are not an option if you really care about your health. They cannot turn you away. There are usually clinics that people without insurance can go to and they are less expencive than an apponitment with your doctor. I was fortunate that the clinic hear me is pretty good. Then again, people who tend to donate their time to helping others usually take it seriously. What caused it? It's not a common everyday thing, you know. Not like a cold or a splinter. You do not know. You cannot know. You are not a doctor/ You need to bite the bullet and actually see a doctor. What if it worse than just thrush? Here's a quote from the webmd section I included in the links, about thrush... " Illnesses or medical situations that make candida infection more likely to develop include uncontrolled diabetes, HIV infection, cancer, dry mouth, or pregnancy (caused by the hormonal changes that occur with pregnancy). People who smoke or wear dentures that don't fit properly also are at increased risk for thrush. In addition, babies can pass the infection to their mothers during breast-feeding. " I understand it's expencive. I've been without insurance for years but I finally got a job that has insurance, the trouble with that is now I can't afford the co-pay! Sometimes you just have to do what you have to do. And you have to see a professional.
  11. Hey! Don't go to the doctor. They cant help it anyways. You have got Yeast infection. there are few good books about it. -lifeforce by Jeffrey S.McCombs -The Yeast connection by William G.Crook,MD I have had the same problem before, pretty hard to get rid of it for good. 12. First I would ask around and find out if there is a free clinic or charity hospital system in your area. What you have might be thrush and it might be something else. Thrush is basically a yeast infection in your oral cavity. Read the package carefully and check with a pharmacist but maybe sucking on a suppository for vaginal yeast infections will work. READ THE WARNINGS FIRST!!!!!!!
  13. I think you need to go to a clinic or soemthing to get it looked at. If you're in a major city, you can see a dental student who will diagnose you with the help of professors for cheap...they will be able to give you the medication that you need. The Mayo Clinic suggests Acidophilous tablets and unsweetened yougurt.
