what could it mean if i have bumps on the back part of my tongue?
ive had a physical recently and bloodwise nothing came up. but its weird, i have bumps in a straight line across the back of my tongue? like 4 or 5.

- Could it be from something you ate that made your taste buds look like that? It could be a fungus, strep throat, or nothing to worry about.
- It sounds like they are circumvallate papillae. Completely normal, everyone has them. If you look closely at your tongue you will notice there are several different kinds of bumps. Some bigger than others and longer, thinner ones lie one the sides of your tongue. Each, serve a specific purpose in taste perception. If these "bumps" look like they are increasing in size number or become symptomatic you should consult your dentist.
- I'm a dentist. They're called circumvallate papillae, and they are part of the anatomy of the dorsum of your tongue. There are probably more than 5, however.
