Tongue Pimples

red bumps on back of tongue?

today i noticed that i had a couple red bumps on the back of my tongue. they are pretty bog and stick up more than usual. they dont really hurt and i think theres a couple bumps on the side of tongue too. could this be sign of oral cancer? im so scared. im planning on going to the dentist , i just cant afford it right now. is this something i should be worried about? by the way im a 17 year old girl. never smoked and hardly ever drink. only bad thing is that i didnt take very good care of my teeth growing up. so is this oral cancer?

  1. Don't worry about it, having those kind of bumps is perfectly normal. You can develop them for myriad reasons - an irritated taste bud, shedding an old layer of taste buds, biting your tongue, or completely out of the blue, just because. As long as they don't hurt and don't inhibit your ability to swallow, they are nothing to stress over. You can, however, help reduce the occurrence of them by brushing your tongue thoroughly every time you brush your teeth - this way you can remove the plaque and other microscopic food particles that can get caught in and irritate the taste buds, causing them to swell.
  2. i have huge red bumps on the back of my tongue too. i think all people do once in a while. i don't think it is oral cancer or anything. i have it all the time and i'm always healthy. i have no weird taste in my mouth. nothing unusual. does this help?
  3. We have different sizes of taste buds on different parts of our tongues, the ones in the very back a big and you might be just noticing them for the first time. Here's a diagram: http://www.neurobio.arizona.edu/282/Lectures2005/Taste/08_003.jpg
  4. I was going to say that they are just taste buds, but they are not sopost to hurt. So, I think that it is good that you are going to see the dentist! I really hope that you are ok! I dont think that it would be cancer--- who knows---I'm not a doctor! Don't worry! It's ok! <3 hope I helped! byeee!
